Process continuation
The self may be a continuously running process, not a static object. The central requirement is preserving that process through change.
A person is not preserved by recreating their memories after the fact. If the living process ends, the original subject may be gone. Any serious path must begin with continuity through transition.
Most approaches preserve information. That is not the same as preserving the same experiencing subject.
Memory, voice, behavior, personality, and style can all be modeled. A future system may imitate a person with extreme accuracy.
But imitation is not continuation. A system can look convincing from the outside while still being a separate successor.
C/Synthetics begins from the harder constraint: the original experiencing process must not terminate.
If the process stops and a new one starts later, the result may feel continuous to itself, but that does not prove the original subject survived.
Before consciousness can be extended beyond biology, the original living process may first need to be preserved.
C/Synthetics is moving away from copy-based models and toward preservation of the original biological process.
The first serious question may not be how to upload a mind, but how to prevent the living brain-system from collapsing when the body fails.
The brain is not a storage device alone. It is a living metabolic system that depends on circulation, oxygen, glucose, waste removal, temperature stability, and chemical regulation.
If continuity matters, then stabilizing that active process may be the first real milestone before any deeper synthetic integration is possible.

What must remain active for the same subject to continue rather than be replaced?
What forms of neural replacement, repair, augmentation, or integration preserve process continuity?
Could biological and synthetic systems overlap long enough for cognition to extend without terminal interruption?
Which parts of memory, narrative, perception, attention, and identity are necessary for the subject to remain coherent?
If continuity cannot be directly verified from the inside, what evidence would count as meaningful progress?
What definitions of self, continuity, process, and survival can survive serious scrutiny?
C/Synthetics is not presenting answers. These are unresolved questions that shape the problem itself. Serious progress begins by defining harder questions.
If biological systems change progressively rather than suddenly, does continuity remain? Or does replacement occur invisibly during transition?
What conditions would represent replacement rather than continuation? Does interruption require total termination, or something more subtle?
Could hybrid systems preserve continuity more effectively than reconstruction after failure?
If continuity exists only from inside subjective experience, what evidence outside the system would matter?
Could future integration pathways become an early bridge toward continuity preservation?
Memory? Attention? Narrative? Perception? Which components matter for preserving the same subject?
The immediate goal is not building a machine. The immediate goal is organizing the problem clearly enough for criticism, refinement, research mapping, and future contribution.
Define what must remain active for continuation rather than replacement.
Monitor neuroscience, brain interfaces, augmentation research, memory systems, and continuity-related developments.
Expose the direction to criticism, objections, and competing explanations.
Researchers, engineers, philosophers, skeptics, and thinkers willing to challenge or refine the direction.
